Volkswagen Passat CC

If you've always driven a coupe before but got an extension and realized that it's quite awkward to fit the whole family with highchairs, children, bags etc. through only two doors and folded seats. Although you still don't want to depart from the beautiful shape that a coupe has and the stylish frameless doors, and you don't want to spend the sums needed to get the star on the front of a Mercedes CLS. Well, then maybe a VolksWagen Passat CC is something for you

.

I had the opportunity to borrow a Passat CC during a week's stay in New York. It's always a little different to borrow new car models when you're in the states. People there have a completely different attitude towards new models and if it is also German, people raise their eyebrows a couple of extra centimeters. Coming sliding into a brand new Passat CC was definitely no exception. The The elegant body's slim forms are really eye-catching and you like to stop and admire the car for an extra moment. They have also succeeded incredibly well with the rear of the car and the rear lights are really nice. There were several times that people came up when I parked the car somewhere in Manhattan and asked what kind of new model it was. A lot of people also mistook the brand up there and thought it was a Mercedes CLS. Sure, Volkswagen has taken the concept straight from Mercedes, but on the other hand, they have succeeded so well with their variant that it almost feels like it equals it. The stylish 18 inch turbine-like rims are also quite straight copied from the Mercedes SLR. But again, it doesn't matter because they look so nice on the CC anyway.

The model I had at my disposal was a 3.6 liter V6 petrol engine with a DSG gearbox, i.e. a so-called double clutch gearbox. The engine and gearbox work very well together and the car feels lively without being a sports car for that matter. And having a car that responds to your commands can come in handy in rush hour Manhattan streets. However, I think that Swedish traffic keeps a relatively fast pace, so you don't get stressed out by New York traffic when you have to zig zag your way through the yellow taxis.

Volkswagen has really stepped up from being the brand quite far down the list for quality feeling and nowadays it has taken large shares and is not far from the level of the 3 big brands at the top, BMW, Mercedes and Audi. And Audi was actually not one of these brands either if we go back 20 years. Nowadays, the leather work is top class and the material feel on the instrument panels and doors feels very well done and solid. Volkswagen uses its own design language and you recognize details from both models below the Passat CC and above in terms of model class, such as the Golf and Touareg R50, previously tested in CS Hemma.

And regarding equipment, you can get most of it in CC. Reversing camera, large pannarama sunroof, fans in the seats, distance-keeping cruise control, lane assistant, etc. The latter, i.e. lane assistant, is actually the best on the market, I must say. I have tried both volvos and Mercedes Volkswagens are the best in my opinion. Volvo's is a loud beeping sound that scares more than helps. The Mercedes gives a tremor in the steering wheel that is so weak that it is not felt, while the Volkswagen gives a fairly strong tremor in the steering wheel that you notice once and then resume focus on driving.

The Passat CC feels luxurious and it looks luxurious too. This is a perfect crossover model for those who don't want to make the leap from their beloved coupe directly to the family estate, but still need a little more space. The Passat CC also doesn't cost as much as the car with the star, but despite that, it feels very solid. If you choose a Passat CC, you can count on people to admire your car when you park it.
