Mercedes AMG SL63

I get a key from the girl at the counter at the Mercedes facility in Akalla, then I am completely unaware of what I will soon experience, the devil's bagpipe!

When I get out to the parking lot and press the unlock button on the key, another black beast blinks at the bottom corner of the parking lot. The car is completely black with a few chrome details and red leather interior, very tasteful. The appearance differs mostly in the front from the old SL and the end is almost untouched since the last one. This is because of the expensive cost of the sheet metal construction. The front, however, has received a major refresh and the old round lamps have now been replaced with similar lamps that are on the CLS.

This car is equipped with so-called keylessgo, so the key remains in my pocket and if I had only seen the car from the beginning, I would only have had to grab the door handle and the car would have been unlocked. Once inside the car, there is a button on top of the gear lever and it says start. With a push, something deep rumbles into action and I shudder. What on earth is this I think. What a sound!

The SL63 feels quite heavy in its shape and it is too, a whopping 1895 kilos. But considering the insane power this car has, it's not something you suffer from, at least not as long as it's going straight ahead. And straight ahead this car goes like a rocket. When I drive out of the facility in Akalla, I hardly dare to push the gas pedal to the bottom. Because as soon as I think about it, the 6.2 liter V8 roars and 525 more horsepower. This is a sick powerhouse to say the least.

I turn off and fold down the roof, it's still a cab and the sun is shining so it's best to take advantage of it. Once out on the road again I realize how much more you can hear the engine now, just like it didn't scare the wits out of me before, now it's 10 times worse.

The car absolutely shoots away when you poke the gas pedal, there is power in abundance. Mercedes knows how to build road machines and this is no exception. That the SL63 is best straight ahead is no news. Of course it is fine to take curvy roads with it, although it is the Autobahn this wagon is built for. And it doesn't matter if you choose to go roofless or up, hitting the speed limit at 250 is child's play regardless.

The SL63 has the new 7-speed multi-clutch box from Mercedes and I can only say that they succeeded really well. These days the gearboxes are so good in this type of car that I hardly bother shifting manually in manual mode, the gearbox still does it so quickly and well. One thing that makes the sound experience even better is just when the gear change takes place and the engine gets a little over-revving, then it roars in such a cruel tough way that I can't remember hearing in a similar way. Unbelievably awesome!

The SL63 AMG is a glider rocket. Not many will be able to mount you at a red light and you will definitely leave them with a resounding roar every time you choose to show off your muscles.
