Volvo get away lodge

Join the Cars Collection as we check into Volvo and Tablet Hotel's custom-made lodge outside Åre, where we find peace and energy.

Volvo has together with Tablet Hotels developed this concept which is adapted for two people and maximum enjoyment in the Swedish mountain environment.

The interior of the house is signed by Lena Nyholm, who was a set designer and for almost ten years decorated places in Sweden, South Africa, California and Portugal where she worked both with private clients, offices and restaurants. Lena tells us that she wanted to create a luxurious, but at the same time somewhat unexpected and exciting, mountain house, where it would be inviting, homely and relaxing to be. I wanted to reflect what Volvo stands for (in my opinion) simply, so that the guests would have an experience that should feel genuine and high-class, all the way. With these words, the expectations are of course sky high, but Lena's work is properly done and there is no hint of disappointment. You are overwhelmed when you are welcomed into the house by Jonna who is responsible for the lodge's concierge service and who can be reached around the clock. The combination of modern materials with the old in the timber construction of the house and with the amount of candlelight spreads a fantastic overall atmosphere.

To get to the house, which is located just before Åre and on the road to Trillevallen, we drove the new Volvo V90 Cross Country from Östersund airport. A journey of a little more than an hour and far too short in such a comfortable car. When we arrive at the house, Jonna welcomes us with lit fires.

The house is from the 18th century and was bought in Dalarna by a couple from Stockholm, to then be dismantled, transported to Jämtland and then set up again. It has been three years and the work has been going on since then with doing all the sub-work as well as timbering up the frame and renovating the house, i.a. the kitchen has been built on as a completely new part of the original frame. It became clear just before the first journalists arrived. Volvo rents the house until April 9 and during the month of March, private individuals can rent the Lodge via Tablet Hotels (see link below) for approx. SEK 3,500/night including a Volvo V90.

The place where the Get Away Lodge is located is called Brännvinsvallen.

Brännvinsvallen as such is an old-fashioned dyke, which used to be owned and used by a farm from the village of Undersåker. So a classic old farmstead embankment, (possibly dating from the 17th century) and may be one of Jämtland's oldest mill embankments. Fäbodvallar have existed for a long time in Jämtland and many were in use until the 20th century and some even until the 1950s.

A barnyard is a facility with a collection of buildings such as cottages, barns and cookhouses, i.e. it was where you drove your livestock for summer grazing. Characteristic of the farmstead operation is the on-site processing of the milk into butter and cheese, that is, into goods that were easy to transport and could be preserved until the winter.

The open space where the houses now stand, with a fantastic view of the Åreskutan, was once used for cleaning. An extension has been made to the old timbered house to house the kitchen. On the gable end of the extension is a large glass section facing Åreskutan. A place where you can enjoy breakfast or a glass of wine in the sheepskin-covered chairs. The house's two floors have, in addition to the fantastic and modern kitchen, a living room with a large fireplace. There is also a dining room with an enlarged stereo with Bowers & Wilkins speakers, something we will return to in connection with the car's audio system from the same brand.

The pleasant atmosphere in the house is enhanced by the almost 200 candles that burn together with the fire in the fireplace.

For those who have to work, there is a study room. However, instead of work, what should be given place is relaxation and can be done in the yoga and meditation room on the upper floor. Here there are yoga and nail mats and together with incense and lots of candles you get peace of mind and recovery. Starting the day with meditation and a yoga session sets the tone for the whole day.

In one of the two toilet rooms there is a lovely shower with a stone bench inside the shower room. In the hall there is ski equipment and clothes that you can borrow. For those whose toes are frozen, there are really good winter boots that are guaranteed to keep your feet dry and warm. The idea is that you should be able to fully enjoy both indoors and outdoors.

The name of the lodge, which is "The Get Away Lodge", is anchored in Volvo's latest model V90 Cross Country whose slogan is "The Get Away Car". A car that inspires you to just escape the city and stress. Thanks to four-wheel drive, higher ground clearance and advanced driver assistance and safety systems, this is the perfect vehicle to get to and from the lodge. Fortunately, the lodge concept has ensured that whoever books also gets a V90 Cross Country to use during the days they are here. Just like the lodge, the V90 Cross Country is equipped with a sound system from Bowers & Wilkins. The visible speakers in the car's doors and on top of the dashboard gossip about a sound out of the ordinary. Traveling across the snow-covered vistas with your favorite music is like silk for the soul. The car's demeanor is so calm and composed and incredibly comfortable.

On a lake ice nearby, however, we get the opportunity to see what the car can really withstand when the going is wide and the snow is blowing. Driving a car on ice like this is probably not something you do very often. However, it is very useful and you get the opportunity to learn how to handle a cord and what to do. Here it is not about lifting the cord but controlling it. Something that is easy in the V90 Cross Country even though it is incredibly slippery thanks to the fine balance and four-wheel drive.

The days we get to enjoy the peace and warmth of the lodge and the new Volvo V90 Cross Country run away as fast as the sand in the large hourglass that is on the table in the yoga and meditation room. But thanks to the mood that the environment provides, every minute feels like an experience and memory in itself that will last forever.
