Ford GT

The name Ford GT obliges, because behind the name there is a legend – the Ford GT40.

In the early sixties, Ford's image began to fade. They then introduced the Ford Mustang and engaged somewhat half-heartedly in motorsport. The Mustang is a classic but that wasn't enough. Ford then tried to buy Ferrari but Enzo said no as Ford demanded that the motorsport part should also be included and this was something Enzo did not agree to. When this did not work, they had to move on to English Lola and Eric Broadley, who took up the offer. Thus, the Lola GT became the model for the Ford GT40. Mid engine and a big V8. A total of 105 cars were built, all intended for racing. V8 engine, 4.1-7 liters, 390-530 hp. Won Le Mans four times. Winning there was Henry Ford II's great goal.

The Ford GT began as a concept in connection with Ford celebrating 100 years as a car manufacturer. Externally, the GT was very similar to the GT40, but otherwise a completely new car. A symbolic difference was that the GT40 was 40 inches tall (1 m) but the GT is 3 inches taller. The concept was presented in 2002 at the Detroit Auto Show and in 2004 production started and until 2008 4,038 cars were produced.

The first generation GT had a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 with 550 hp. 0-100 in 3.3 sec, top speed around 330 km/h.

The next generation Ford GT was unveiled in 2015 and went into production in 2016 – 50 years after the Ford GT40's first win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. In 2016, the new GT won its class at Le Mans.

They will produce one car a day until 2020 but not only will it be hugely expensive, you will also have to apply to own a Ford GT. However, it is not enough to just apply, there are requirements from Ford's side for you to be approved. The requirements are that you must have owned the previous generation GT, you must drive the car often and also be active on social media. Four to five cars are said to be destined for Sweden and without a doubt the new GT will become a classic and carry on its iconic status.
