If I had said that a sports car would fly around in space a year ago, most people would have thought I was crazy. But now they do and the car is a Tesla!

Elon Musk, who created Tesla, is undoubtedly one of the greatest pioneers of our time. In addition to Tesla, he is also behind the companies PayPal, SpaceX and Solarcity. The latest contribution in his career was when, just a few months ago, he sent a rocket into space where he mounted his own Tesla Roadster in the nose cone.

The event received great attention all over our planet with images of a doll with a space suit behind the wheel and David Bowie's song "Startman", which also gave the name of the doll. The images of a roofless sports car floating around in space with the earth next to it and the following acts that landed perfectly must not have left anything untouched.

How Tesla changed the view of the car cannot really be compared to how Apple changed the way we use mobile phones with the introduction of the iPhone, but it is not far off. In Apple's case, it was really about reinventing the wheel, and Tesla has not succeeded in being quite so revolutionary.

They have definitely put a lot of pressure on the rest of the car world and with the Volkswagen diesel scandal almost all car brands have put more energy and money into speeding up the electrification of their cars

However, what many believe, and which is wrong, is that Elon has wanted to take over the car world and become the biggest brand like Apple did with the iPhone. What Elon has always wanted with Tesla is to speed up electrification and therefore he has always had completely open books when it comes to Tesla's technology. The fact that the German brands then did not take a large part of the technology because they always had their own technology is another matter, but that it made them hurry up there is no doubt.

The first model from Tesla came in 2008 and was a small two-seater roadster based on a Lotus. Second out and the big success was the Model S, which was presented back in 2009 and went on sale in the USA in 2012 and in Sweden in 2013.

The revolutionary thing about the Model S was the range, with the largest 100 kWh battery capable of up to 300 miles. A distance no commercial electric car has ever come close to before.

After the Model S came the Model X and now the Model 3 is also on the way. A new Roadster has also been unveiled with performance that puts the worst hyper sports car to shame.

Model X is a cross between SUV and large family station wagon. The shapes are soft and lumpy and to say that the car is beautiful would not be true. But the fact that it stands out and differs from the crowd is the whole truth.

With a system setting, it is enough to approach the car and the driver's door opens automatically and when you sit down and step on the brake pedal, the door closes. What really impresses with the doors are the rear passenger doors that open upwards like gull wings and are fully electric.

If the space is tight, the opening is adapted so that nothing scrapes in. Once in the driver's seat, you are struck by how clean and tidy it is. The amount of buttons and controls is reduced to the minimum and what dominates is the incredibly large vertical touch screen in the middle of the console. This is used to control most things in the car. The map in the navigation from Google in this format is really impressive.

Trying to account for all the technology in the Tesla X would take the rest of this magazine, which unfortunately is not possible. But to mention a few highlights before we talk about the actual driving experience is that the car is intelligent, it learns and remembers what you do.

For example, it remembers your routes and automatically starts looking for a parking space when you arrive at your destination and can park completely automatically. It can also drive completely by itself on the road without you even having to hold the steering wheel. However, it cannot become fully autonomous due to our laws.

But it's probably only a matter of time because Volvo is at the forefront of this technology and is helping to pressure our politicians to get the changes that are needed through. Many cars have filters to reduce pollen and bad particles in the air. Tesla took this a little further and the filter in the Model X is of the HEPA type and is of such high medical quality that it can keep most things out of the passenger compartment. In the three air conditioning modes, the highest mode is named "Bioweapon Defense", which speaks for itself.

Once you sit in the Tesla Model X and the door is closed, the car is ready. You don't need to press any buttons or turn a key. Tesla Model X is always ready before you. If you've never driven a Tesla Model X before and press the gas pedal to the bottom, you're guaranteed to get a rollercoaster rush through your whole body. Acceleration from 0 to 100 takes just 3.3 seconds, depending on which battery size you choose. This is faster than most super sports cars out there! Model X has four electric motors that provide power to each wheel, making it all-wheel drive. Practical both for winter road conditions and when the road is hilly and you want to drive actively. Model X feels fantastic even when going really fast in the bends.

As mentioned before, you can write as much as you want about this because it really is such a revolutionary experience when you start to understand the whole. There are really only two disadvantages to mention and one is the price, which on the Model X starts at SEK 982,000 and for the car we test drove, which was a 100D, is SEK 1,179,300. Sure, you get a lot of car and technology for the money, but it's still a high price. The other disadvantage is that you should be able to charge at home, because queuing with the taxis at the fast charging stations will only ruin your day. The latter, however, is something we are guaranteed to see disappear as the infrastructure is continuously expanded for electric cars. A Tesla Model X is definitely a car that will change your life and the way you look at cars, maybe not as much as the iPhone did but not far off. The future is definitely here and Elon is about to change values!
