eCarExpo Stockholm 2024

Now the electric car fair eCarExpo has really gained a foothold! This year, 2024, is the eighth year the fair is held. In addition to Stockholm and Gothenburg, where the fair has been held for eight years, the fair has also been held in Copenhagen since 2023 for the third year in a row and the first year in Tallinn. In 2024, the fair will also move to Oslo for the first year, and in 2025 the fair will also be in Helsinki. So to say that eCarExpo is a success that only grows and grows is no lie or exaggeration! Here are the highlights I felt were worth getting some extra light at the fair in Stockholm, which was held on February 2-4, 2024.

Audi Q8 e-tron Dakar edition – A Q8 for the sand

To celebrate its victory in the historic Dakar rally, Audi chose to build a special version of the Q8 e-tron with the addition of the Dakar edition. It premiered at eCarExpo in Stockholm. This year's incredibly tough Dakar rally was won by Audi with the Spanish Spaniards Carlos Sainz/Lucas Cruz. They crossed the finish line after 790 miles, a full hour and 20 minutes ahead of the runner-up. The Swedish duo Mattias Ekström and Emil Bergkvist also finished in an Audi. It is the first time an electric car has won the tough desert rally.

BMW – i is electric in BMW language

Among other things, BMW showed the iX2, pictured on the right. But they had also brought the brand new i5 Touring, but they weren't allowed to take pictures of it, but were shown in a part where they hung up rubber walls so the car could remain secret until the official international presentation, which shouldn't be far away. Which actually is now. I promise to return with a full report on the i5 Touring.

Cadillac Lyriq – An electrified American.

In Cadillac's stand, we found their new all-electric model Lyriq. A large four-wheel drive family SUV with a range of 530 km. As usual, comfort is the watchword when it comes to Cadillac. But also performance, because how about 0-100 in 5.3 seconds! I will come back with a more detailed article when I test drive the Lyriq, which I hope will happen in the not too distant future.

Cupra Tavascan – A Spanish fanning electric wind

When it comes to the Cupra, it's always been a bit more fanciful than with sister brand Seat from which it descends. Cupra presented the new Tavascan model, which is the brand's first electric SUV in coupe format. It can be had with either rear- or four-wheel drive. With the right conditions, Tavanscan should be able to charge from 0 to 100 km in just 7 minutes!

Electric Ferrari 330 GT 1964 (Caresto) – An electrified Italian dream.

Some would probably wish for the lives of others if you do this with a classic Ferrari like the 330 GT from 1964. Tearing out the original V12 engine and replacing it with an electric motor from a Tesla P100D may not be done with impunity according to some. At least now, Swedish Caresto has done this and they have allowed the car to have the same performance as it had with its v12 engine, which was 400 horsepower. Range with electric motor is 400 km. At least it's stylish, which probably no one can argue against!

Hyundai Ioniq 5 N – A bussel car from Hyundai

Hyundai showed off several electric cars, but the most attention got their mischievous car, the Ioniq 5 N, which also had its Swedish premiere at eCarExpo. A car in the Golf format with good performance. The Ioniq 5 N has already been awarded “Car of the Year 2023” by TopGear.com. With two electric motors, one at the rear and one at the front, the combined effect is a staggering 650 horsepower (with N Grin Boost). I promise to come back with a full report on this small electric bus from Korean Hyundai!

Lotus Eletre – An electric sports car in SUV format

With a total power of an insane 905 horsepower, the Lotus Eletre will take you from standstill to 100 in just 2.95 seconds. And it is fast I can say, hyper fast even! So fast that it even makes the Lotus Eletre the world's fastest twin-engine SUV. With the right conditions, you should be able to charge from 0 to 400 km in just 20 minutes. Total range 600 km. There is no doubt that lotus is back, and Eletre is really something that catches your eye, both in terms of appearance and performance!

MG Cyberster – A storied British car brand!

The classic car brand MG, originally from England, is now China-owned. At the fair, MG surprised with a small, super-tough sports car with doors that open upwards like on an old Lamborghini, for example. The model is called Cyberster. I'm really looking forward to test driving the Cyberster as I was raised with MGs as it was close to my father and he had several MGs when I was a kid growing up.

Nissan Formula E – like F1 fixed on electricity!

Nissan of course showed a lot of electric cars, but the one that clearly grabbed the attention was their Formula E. Enough that F1 might be the first thing that comes to mind when it comes to hyper-fast car racing. But of course Formula E is something that is coming big and is expected to take a lot of focus from F1. Nissan showed off their Formula E car at eCarExpo and I have actually test driven F1 and even twice! But gosh, how excited I am to test drive Formula E! We'll see if that happens.

GWM and ORA – Another new Chinese electric car brand.

The amount of Chinese electric car brands popping up never seems to decrease. Now another new one has found its way here and it is ORA. ORA comes from the ground up from GWM, Great Wall Motor and was founded back in 1984. With cute design and pink balloons, you are guaranteed to attract many buyers. At the fair they had two models on display, GWM WEY 05 and ORA.

Polestar 4 – A new small electric SUV from Polestar

Polestar 4 which is the latest Polestar has to show and was of course at eCarExpo. The most remarkable thing about the Polestar 4 is probably that it completely lacks a rear window and instead has an HD camera that films backwards. I promise to tell you how I experience this as soon as I test drive the car.

Rivian R1T – An electric pick ice

American Rivian has been talked about for a while now and I have seen pictures of their pickup for a long time. Now it is here and of course was shown at eCarExpo. The Rivian R1T is a "full-size" pickup and its main competitor is the Ford F150 Lightning, which you can read my test of earlier here on CarsCollection.se. The other main competitor to Rivian, firmly in the American market, is the Tesla Cybertruck. But as it looks now, Cybertruck will probably not be legal and allowed to drive here in Sweden. However, Rivian will be. So let me come back with a report when I get to test drive the Rivian.

Skoda Enyaq Coupé – A stylish electric SUV coupé

Among other things, Skoda showed off their stylish SUV coupé, the Enyaq Coupé. The Enyaq is not a new model, but I haven't test driven it yet and of course I will. So let me come back with a report when it's done and since the Enyaq Coupé is also a colorful and stylish SUV coupe, I'll of course choose it.

Smart #1 and #3 – Smart is at it again!

It's been quiet about Smart for a while now. But at the fair, they showed off two completely new models. #1 and #3, They are much larger than the original Smart car that existed in the mid-nineties. Back then it was extremely small and cute, while now they built a more normal car, still small and flexible for city traffic. Smart #1 is a small SUV with a range of 440 km. Depending on the conditions, you can charge from 10% to 80% in 30 min. Smart #3 is an SUV coupe and has about the same performance but goes slightly further and 455 km on a charge. As I have written under many other of the fair's cars, I will return with a report when the Smart cars are test driven.

Tesla – Always on the go!

Tesla 3 is the latest Tesla that received a "facelift", major update in November and was of course at the fair. Since then, a series of updates have been made to existing models and Telsla is of course an incredibly important brand when it comes to electric cars. That there would have been a Cybertruck would have been a dream, but since it will probably not be allowed to drive in Sweden, there was instead a miniature Cybertruck intended for children. It is of course allowed to drive and will probably be a great pleasure for the children who have the pleasure of getting one. I'm planning a trip to the USA in the future, but getting the opportunity to test a Cybertruck while I'm there is apparently completely impossible. With a pre-order from private customers and companies of 2,000,000 Cybertrucks. But Tesla's ability to produce 250,000 Cybertrucks a year means that no Cybertrucks can be taken out to be loaned to the press. Those seen in, for example, Top Gear etc. are early customer cars.

Volkswagen ID.2all – A Folka for everyone!

That Volkswagen built cars that suit everyone is nothing new. The Bubble is still among the world's best-selling cars. At the fair, Volkswagen presented the ID.2all. A little sibling to ID.3 and ID.4. The name ID.2all will not be like that once the model is released. Then of course it will only be ID.2. As some of you who follow me on Instagram, maybe I did something on the ID.2 GTI Concept and when Volkswagen showed it at the Volkswagen showroom in Stockholm at the beginning of December 2023. In addition to the ID.2all, Volkswagen also showed a slightly longer version a ID.Buzz that has room for up to seven people.

XPENG G9 – A sporty yet luxurious electric SUV

In a sporty but luxurious way, XPENG tries to stand out among the multitude of Chinese brands of mainly electric cars that have appeared. With the G9 model, XPENG says you should get up to 570 km on a full charge. 0-100 km/h must be completed in just 3.9 seconds, which is breathtakingly fast for such a large SUV! With the right conditions, you can reach 100 km in just 5 minutes of charging. At the fair, XPENG displayed several models. On the G9 that was there, the company RindAb had provided an extra light ramp from Vision X, which I can agree with because it provides enough light during our dark half year here in Sweden.

ZEEKR 001 – Another Chinese electric car company.

As I already mentioned, the car industry is almost flooded right now with Chinese electric car brands. ZEEKR is yet another and they were of course present at eCarExpo. With them at the fair, they had two models, ZEEKR 001 and X. The former a so-called "shooting break", a sedan coupe. While the X is a small SUV. I will of course report back when test runs of ZEEKR 001 and X are done.
