Ford F150 Lightning

It really was about time that a full-size electrified pickup truck appeared!

Now it's here for all environmentally friendly and conscious construction workers. Ford has released an electrified version of its F150 pickup. The F150 is actually among the world's best-selling cars because it's so big in the US. In the United States, it has been the best-selling car model for 46 consecutive years. I have long planned a coast to coast trip in the USA with just a Ford F150. Who knows, maybe it will be in an F150 Lightning.

At first glance, the F150 Lightning doesn't differ that much from the regular gasoline-powered version. But a trained eye of course sees the differences apart from a little declare and emblem that reveals it of course. But it's only when you start to open the front hood that you really understand that this is no ordinary F150 at all. Instead of V-shaped petrol engines, we find nothing here, a large space where a person of my size can easily fit. Then when you drive it, it obviously differs from its siblings with petrol engines. It is virtually silent and extremely powerful. I've driven many powerful, gasoline-powered versions of the F150. The strongest was an F150 Shelby with a supercharged V8 of 755 horses. But the F150 Lightning should not be ashamed of itself and is actually the most powerful version of the F150 Ford themselves have produced. The Shelby I just mentioned was not an original Ford F150 so doesn't count.

The F150 Lightning is equipped with two electric motors that together generate 586 horses. As I wrote about earlier here on CarsCollection.se, electric horses are something completely different when it comes to accelerating up to speed from a standstill. Here, a gasoline-powered car needs time to build up torque, while an electric-powered car has all the power available from the start. In the F150 Lightning a total of 1,051 Newton meters in twist, which is a lot. It is also something that is really felt in the F150 Lightning. It leaves many performance cars behind.

The range is of course something that means a lot, especially in an electric car. With a standard battery, the range is approximately 37 miles. But there is an option with a battery that increases the range and then it is around 52 miles. You can choose most of the charging stations to charge the F150 Lightning, which is nice and means that you rarely feel so-called range anxiety. You obviously have to be more planning in your driving with an electric car than with one that runs on petrol or diesel. But the advantages of silently and yet powerfully getting around in a car this big, which also packs more than its gasoline-powered sibling, outweigh the energy you have to put into planning the trip. In the future, a rear-wheel drive version is also expected, which is then expected to have a slightly longer range.

The pickup model F was already introduced in the 1940s. Then as F-1, F-2, F-3 and so on. The size of the car was what determined how high a number the car got. Then in the 1950s, when the second generation came, they switched to ter numbers where they started with the F-100, F-250 and F-350. In 1975, the most famous version appeared, the F150. So updating one of the best-selling cars in the world to an electric version after almost 50 years feels quite logical.

Interiorly, you really find peace in an F150 and it is of course no different in a Lightning, albeit even better. The F150 Lightning is of course available in several versions, with Platinum at the top. In addition to the Platinum, there is also the Lariat and the XLT, where the XLT is the least equipped version. In Platinum you don't miss anything. Incredible amount of space, comfortable seats both front and back. There is nothing wrong with the technology either. A large 15.5-inch screen adorns the center console, where most things can be set. If you want to enjoy your best music, do so of course through the Bang & Olufsen sound system with a whopping 1,080 watts and 18 speakers.

In addition to getting around between workplaces in a very convenient and environmentally friendly way, the F150 Lightning can also serve as an energy source for electric tools you take with you to your workplace. You can also supply a home, for example the summer house, with electricity for up to three days. But read summer house and not a house for winter stay as it would require too much energy to heat up.

As I mentioned, there is no traditional engine in the front and instead there is a space you can store a lot in. A person like me in normal size who of course cannot be transported there but can fit without problems. In total, there is room for a full 400L or 182 kilograms. So with the F150 Lightning you get a lot with you and can drive relatively far without having anxiety about polluting the world.
